The cost components

Record the extractor or fan, duct and fittings, window or wall termination, make-up air, monitoring, installation labor, commissioning and any professional assessment. For recirculating units, add prefilter, particulate and sorbent replacement on the actual duty cycle.

Outdoor exhaust versus recirculation

Outdoor exhaust can remove contaminants from the room when correctly designed, but route length, restrictions, discharge location, make-up air and local rules still matter. Recirculating filtration requires documented suitability, adequate stages and a replacement plan.

Do not discharge where fumes can re-enter the building or expose others. Do not treat odor reduction as proof that hazardous contaminants are controlled.

Questions for the machine and extractor vendors

Ask for the exact machine exhaust requirement, port geometry, approved hose limits, compatible materials, filter stages, alarm or monitoring behavior, replacement intervals and current filter prices. Preserve the model and manual version.

When official evidence conflicts or the planned material is outside the extractor documentation, keep the field unresolved and obtain a competent site-specific assessment.

What not to do

Do not design an improvised recirculating system from a generic fan rating, defeat machine alarms or interlocks, or process unknown plastics to see whether the filter handles them.

Safety and manufacturer requirements override a cheaper installation. The calculator is a budgeting tool, not an engineering design.
