Process choices

Fiber and MOPA systems are common candidates for direct marking or controlled removal on identified anodized aluminum. Some diode or CO₂ systems can also mark selected anodized products when the exact manufacturer documents the combination.

Do not convert a category-level material statement into universal settings. Confirm the machine, module, lens, part finish and intended visual or durability requirement.

Anodized is not generic coated aluminum

Paint, powder coat, printing, protective film and unknown sealants have different chemistry and decomposition behavior. The word coated is not enough to establish compatibility.

Keep supplier records for the alloy, anodize type or product SKU, dye or finish, coating/adhesive layers and SDS/TDS where applicable.

Production characteristics

Check field size, fixture repeatability, focus across the part, contrast consistency, rotary geometry and inspection criteria. A promotional color sample is not evidence that the same outcome will repeat on a different alloy or finish.

If corrosion resistance or protective performance matters, qualify the finished mark for that requirement; surface removal can change the protective layer.

Safety boundary

Use the enclosure or controlled-area design, extraction and supervision specified for the exact machine and material. Coating and substrate emissions need a documented control path.

Stop on unknown finish, film, adhesive or coating. Do not burn-test the material to identify it.

Supported anodized aluminum does not mean all coated aluminum is supported. Verify every layer before processing.
